Meet Mid Water
Hello there…
My name is Pete, and this is Mid Water, an Audio Production Studio based in the creative heart of North London, and here is a little story.
Once upon a time, I was 12 years old, and my Grandfather brought me an Acoustic Guitar after I complained that being coerced into learning the Piano and the Violin wasn’t cool enough to get me ‘street cred’ points at school.
I quite literally never put it down, joined my first band when I was 16, struggling to get a gig that was later than 20:00 because they would kick us out for not being old enough. An originals band requires you to have original music, and so began the journey of learning how to songwriter. They sucked but they got better, I hopped around bands into my late teens and early twenties and as the music got better, so did the gig opportunities.
Let me ask you something. Ever tried advertising your band without any recordings of your music?
So you need to record. You need to get your music produced, then mixed, then mastered, then out to the world. An expensive process.
We were quoted anywhere from £300 up to £3000 per track for the full process, and this was before we’d even considered the costs of distribution and marketing! (CDs were still a thing at this point…)
TLDR: We couldn’t afford this - With an album’s worth of material, we simply didn’t have the disposable income as individuals to spend this money on recording our music at a studio. So what do you do? - You just learn to do it yourself.
Armed with nothing but stock plug-ins, YouTube tutorials, a £150 microphone, and a can do attitude, we recorded the Album in a spare room at my Parent’s house (thanks Mum & Dad), and voila. The music went out, it did pretty well, we got to tour the country, we even got to see a bit of Europe, and made a lot of friends on the way. But most importantly, it made me realise that I have way more of a love for production, than I ever did getting on a stage. So let’s fast forward to the main point of this post.
What Makes Mid Water Different?
The cost of living already sucks, and it’s reducing opportunities for Bands & Artists to get their creations and their passions into the world. Not cool.
So here we are… We’ve been there and faced the financial battle that held us back for longer than it should have, and now we’ve taken those skills from that initial Album recording, developed them, and created a career out of them, in order to be there for Bands & Artists who want their art in the world, without breaking the bank.
We can work to pretty much any budget, working on a £ per track basis, or £ per day rates. It doesn’t matter what your project is, we want to help. Want to pay over several months? No problem!
‘Why are you doing this?’ - Because I love it. I get to meet new people, make good friends, and listen to music all day, every day. Money can come and go but art lives on forever. Being a part of that journey with you, gives us genuine excitement.
